Vancouver Carpet Cleaners Share Cleaning Hacks You Can Try

Mar 28th, 2019 | by Angelo |    0

As a team of Vancouver carpet cleaners, the team at Angelo’s FabriClean knows that sometimes a bit of ingenuity is required for on the spot cleaning situations. Sometimes people don’t have the right custom-built tool for a job, but in a pinch, there are ways around that. Here are some life hacks that might come in handy:

Use an iron to remove stains: First, vacuum the carpet to remove any grit, then dampen the stain with a towel dipped in a solution of vinegar and water. Leave the towel over the stain and use the iron to heat the towel. This should get rid of most, if not all, of the stain.

Baking soda and essential oils: Most people know baking soda can be used as a deodorizer, but add some essential oils and it can make those carpets smell nice as well. Mix 10-20 drops of essential oil in a box of baking soda, mix it up well, then sprinkle it on the carpet and wait five minutes before vacuuming.

Cleaning shag carpeting: People with shag carpeting have to be careful about how they clean it. A strong vacuum can actually damage it or get caught up in the machinery. If it is beginning to shed, try “de-shagging” it by using the hose attachment instead. It will take longer, but you will get deeper into the rug without hurting the fibres.

Carpet fluffing: If a carpet is looking flat, fluff it up with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water. Give it time to work, then blot it up. Run a spoon on its side along the fibres to help fluff them up and get them standing straight again.

Alternately, if there are furniture dents, try using an ice cube and let it melt into the dent. Then take a towel and blot it up, but don’t press hard. Then use the iron again, like the stain removing tip above. Stop before it’s completely dry and let it air dry, then fluff it up by hand. Note about differing carpet types: Low-pile, looped carpets are good for foot traffic, but are more difficult to get rid of stains in. When using the tips mentioned above, remember that it may require more physical effort than when using the same techniques on a plush carpet.

Taking care of a carpet can cut down on how often it needs to be professionally cleaned, but even so, the pros should be brought in at least once a year.
